Cockatiel Parakeet
Cockatiel Parakeet (Nymphicus hollandicus) — A small, intelligent parrot native to Australia and one of the most popular companion birds worldwide. Cockatiels are easily recognized by their upright crest, round cheek patches (orange in many varieties), and soft gray, white, yellow, or pied coloration.
Cockatiels are known for their gentle, friendly temperament and strong bonding with humans. While not as loud as larger parrots, they are expressive communicators, using whistles, chirps, and body language. Males are especially known for whistling tunes and mimicking household sounds, though speech is limited compared to larger parrots.
Cockatiels are excellent birds for both first-time and experienced bird owners due to their manageable size, affectionate nature, and relatively calm demeanor.
