Hydei Fruit Fly

Hydei Fruit Fly (Drosophila hydei) — A larger, flightless fruit fly commonly used as a feeder insect for small reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates that require prey slightly bigger than standard fruit flies. Hydei fruit flies are ideal for growing juveniles that have outgrown D. melanogaster but are not yet ready for pinhead crickets.

Hydei fruit flies move actively, triggering strong feeding responses while remaining easy to manage in culture form. They are simple to maintain, reproduce well, and are widely used by breeders and keepers raising baby reptiles and amphibians.

Hydei fruit flies are an excellent transitional feeder, offering slightly larger prey while maintaining safety, digestibility, and ease of use for growing animals.
